The Lake District is one of my favourite places in the UK…….
We’re heading up to Pooley Bridge in the North Eastern Lakes for a few days.
And dare I speak too soon but the weather looks to be stunning. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, we are talking about The Lakes where rain can spring from no where and you can have all four seasons in one day.
So off we set leaving behind a blur of last minute packing and checking. With the car packed high (anyone would think we were away for a month) we sped off into the sun.
We decided to find lunch on the run. We were pretty pleased with what we found considering it was an impromptu stop….
A delightful organic farm shop cafe on the A66 near Barnard Castle. It turns out it’s in the top 10 British farm shops. We had fallen on our feet here!
Unfortunately we were staving so eating came before photos. Therefore my pictures do the food no justice what so ever.
They even had a pizza oven. I’m dying to go back and try a freshly cooked pizza!
And lots of lovely looking organic produce.
Next stop Pooley Bridge.
A bit further down the road we finally made it to our destination, and our accommodation for a few days…
A gorgeous lodge nestled in the trees just a stones throw from Ullswater lake.
Sunnyside lodge was definitely living up to its name when we arrived, the sun was streaming down on us. We could see part of Ullswater lake in the distance with the sun sparkling off it. We were desperate to get down to the lakeside.
After dumping our bags and quickly unpacking a few things, we grabbed our camera and took off down to Ullswater lake. What we found was breath-taking.
The lake was so inviting.
I was so close to jumping in!
The rest of the afternoon was spent out in the beautiful fresh air soaking up the mighty scenery surrounding us.
After our day of travelling, we finished off with drinks on the decking soaking up the last rays of sun.
A perfect day in Pooley Bridge.
Tomorrow it’s off to Keswick…..
