Lock Stock And Two Roast Ciabatta

On a meander around Newark we stumbled upon The Moorings, an independent restaurant on the banks on the River Trent. We ended up sat by a lock, taking stock of the day with two plates slates of mouth watering roast dinners stuffed inside fresh ciabatta.

On what felt like our own private balcony, we sat and watched the world swim by with the sun on our backs (when it wasn’t hiding behind the clouds).

We tucked into our ‘roast in a bun’

Belly Pork & Apple Sauce
Roast Lamb & Mint Sauce

Ok so I’ve never had roast potato and salad before, but on this plate it really worked.

Food With A view

A perfect setting to sit back and take stock. We sat and sifted through the pictures we had taken on our wanderings around Newark that morning.

 The beautiful old buildings.

The places we wanted to come back to try.
 The castle gardens.

Oh look up there!
The beautiful scenery as we walked along the River Trent.
The Lock on the banks of the River Trent. Where we found The Moorings and the roast ciabattas.
We will cross that bridge when we come to it!

Despite the red light it was time to keep moving. So after our delicious lunch we headed off in search of cake. And cake we found!

And live music.

At a cafe called Strays.

Giant Victoria Sponge
Lemon Meringue Pie

I had high hopes for the Lemon Meringue Pie, but unfortunately it wasn’t as tasty as it was pretty! But fear not, a roaming fork came swooping straight in to polish it off.

It looks like the live music is a regular feature here.

Maybe we will be back?
But for now it was time to head home. We had eaten ourselves to a standstill.
…….What a beautiful day in Britain.
