Frankfurt German Christmas Market
If you’re wanting to get into the Christmas spirit, but don’t know how, I have just the thing for you…
The Frankfurt German Christmas Market in Birmingham.
My other half and I took a trip there at the weekend to soak up the Christmas atmosphere, and to tuck into some market stall food of course!
We were met with reindeers, tinsel, baubles, Christmas trees and lots of twinkling lights!
Father Christmas was even there to greet us with a festive salute!
It doesn’t get more ‘Christmassy’ than that!
The market sprawled out over several streets in the centre of Birmingham.
Our first thought was coffee…
I can’t think why?!
So we grabbed a cup and took a stroll through the winding city streets.
Each stall grabbed our attention!
This particular stall definitely grabbed me! I seemed to remember a homer moment as I walked past it!
As I walked I was making a mental note of what was on the menu for the day!
The feasting began with German sausage!
A red bratwurst to be precise. Wrapped in a bun and smothered in onions and a red sauce. Initially I thought this was ketchup as I slathered it on, but it didn’t taste like ketchup! But it was tasty all the same!
This was closely followed by a hot cup of mulled wine and mulled cider to ‘warm our trotters’.
Mulled wine has to be my favourite thing about Christmas food & drink. There’s something about the spiced beverage that warms more than my trotters!
After contemplating a ride on the ferris wheel we decided we’d had too much alcohol and it was time to hunt for dessert!
It wasn’t long before we caught a whopper of a dessert!
A pot stuffed with marshmallows, strawberries and a token doughnut all drenched in melted milk and white chocolate!
It was time to dive in. I’m sure I’ve had dreams where I quite literally have! But for now a spoon would have to do!
As the sugar rush kicked in we set off to pound the pavements and sift through some of the craft stalls.
But soon got side tracked by beer! Oops!
By which time we noticed the sun was dropping and a dull grey day was being replaced by quite a sunny dramatic sky.
The days last attempt at showing some flare before bed.
It lit up the sky in a burnt orange colour as the sun slowly sunk down.
I’ve never seen such a dramatic looking ferris wheel.
As the day darkened it only enhanced the christmas atmosphere as it brought to life the lovely lights dotted all over the Christmas market.
We were almost ready to say goodbye, but we’d one last thing to sample before we set off back home.
Some simple sweet potato fries.
Can I just clarify it was the sweet potato fries that were naked, not me!
Such a sweet end to a great day out in Birmingham!
I cannot recommend the Frankfurt German Christmas Market enough. It’s got me firmly in the Christmas mood!
It’s on until the 22nd December so head on down if you need a fix of Christmas cheer!
